Benjamin King has spent more than 3 decades acting, starring in projects such as Liv and Maddie, Lethal Weapon 4, Saved by the Bell and so much more. His acting portfolio is quite impressive. But away from the cameras, King has another passion that has been a constant throughout his life, and that is the Chargers.

As I was doing research before the interview, I discovered that he is the grandson of former Chargers owner Gene Klein. His childhood is rooted with all types of memories with the organization, especially at Jack Murphy Stadium. Benjamin is a lifelong devoted fan, I was very impressed with his knowledge of the game and the Bolts. As he can go in depth with all topics related to the Chargers. From history to current roster discussions, he can talk about it all. When asked who his favorite Chargers player was, King mentioned 1 player who really caught his eyes on the gridiron. That player is former wide receiver John Jefferson. Jefferson was a first-round pick in the 1978 NFL draft, spending 3 seasons with the team. King mentioned that Jefferson was one of a kind, noting that he was electric on the field. Another player he mentioned was Chargers legend Kellen Winslow.

When speaking to Benjamin, I asked him what his most exciting game to watch as a fan was. King highlighted the 1982 AFC divisional matchup involving the Bolts and the Miami Dolphins. Where the Chargers beat the Fins in an overtime thriller 41-38. King stated that “it was the most exciting game to watch”, as the ending was a roller coaster of a game. It is a part of Chargers history that we cannot let slip our memory. So to see fans like Benjamin mention these types of wins, it's very refreshing.
King also reflected on his time working on the television series, The Wedding Bells. Recalling a hilarious story from the show's press day. Which happened to fall on the same day as the 2006 playoff matchup against the New England Patriots on January 14th 2007. He missed the game and had to wait until the day was completed on set. Determined to experience the game without knowing the outcome, Benjamin made sure no one around him revealed the score. Only for Marlon Mcree to fumble in a devastating loss. Even though the game didn't go the way King wanted it to, it shows his true fandom for the Chargers and how passionate he truly is for the team.
The last thing we spoke about was his relationship with former Chargers placekicker Rolf Benirschke. Who is a pro bowler, man of the year, and Chargers Hall of Famer. Rolph has one of the most fascinating and amazing stories you will ever hear. After falling ill from Crohn's disease early in his football career, the pain worsened, unfortunately landing him in the ICU. Benirschke eventually made a remarkable recovery playing 7 more seasons in the NFL. King explained the relationship he has with the placekicker, recalling it a special friendship. When asked who his favorite player was earlier in the interview, he mentioned Benirschke as his favorite person from the organization. Hearing this in real time was a great experience, and a unique story to hear.
